The Derby Police Department is proud to announce the hiring of five new patrol officers each of whom were sworn in at last night’s police commission meeting.
The five officers are Taylor Norton, Frank DeAngelo IV, John O’Donoghue, Frank Sicsico, and Eric Grella.
Norton, 23, lives in Bristol. He has an undergraduate criminology degree from Central Connecticut State University and was a former all-state high school soccer player at Bristol Eastern High School. He is a certified EMT and a licensed commercial pilot.
DeAngelo is a 28-year-old Shelton resident. A former teacher, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Quinnipiac University and is working toward a master’s degree in English.
O’Donoghue, 21, from Seymour, has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of New Haven. He is a member of the Derby Auxiliary Police Department.
Sicsico, 33, is a Trumbull resident with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He is a reservist with the United States Marine Corps where he specializes in crash-fire rescue.
Grella, 28, lives Thomaston. A former teacher, Grella received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Central Connecticut State University. He has a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport.
Each recruit will start their training at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden Jan. 4.
The academy training is about 24 weeks. They must pass an additional 12 weeks of field training at the Derby Police Department before they become certified officers.
