Derby Police Announce Arrest Connected To January Shooting

DERBY — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a 22-year-old Ansonia man in connection to a January shooting on Eighth Street.

“The investigation revealed this to be a drug-related shooting,” police said in a statement. Police did not elaborate.

Rajohn James was charged Wednesday with first-degree criminal attempt at robbery and first-degree criminal liability for assault.

Police were called to Eighth Street near Hawthorne Avenue on Jan. 4 around 9 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had been shot on the sidewalk.

Police said Thursday the victim was 26 years old. He survived, despite being shot three times at close range.

“Several suspects fled the area on foot after the shooting,” police said.

In a prepared statement, Derby police thanked Ansonia and Bridgeport police for assisting in the investigation, along with the Bridgeport Police Department’s gang unit.
