Derby Police Ask For Info On Route 34 Fuel Spill

DERBY — City police are trying to determine who and what was responsible for dumping a substantial” amount of fuel on Route 34 (New Haven Avenue) Thursday (May 22) in east Derby.

Several motor vehicle accidents occurred due to the hazardous road conditions caused by the fuel spill. We aim to hold the responsible individual(s) accountable,” Derby police said in a Facebook post Friday (May 23).

Derby police and fire department were contacted about 2 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a fuel spill.

Sand trucks had to respond to coat the road, causing significant traffic delays, according to a Facebook post from the Orange Police Department (Route 34 passes through Derby and Orange before reaching New Haven).
