
DERBY — A drunk driver caused about 500 homes to lose electricity in west Derby on Tuesday night.
A driver crashed into a utility pole on Chatfield Street near the entrance to the Derby High School and middle school campus at about 9:30 p.m.
The vehicle managed to drive away, and was discovered a short time later near the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Lakeview Terrace.
About 500 customers were without power while a crew from United Illuminated arrived on scene to make repairs.
The driver was located and charged with driving under the influence, police said in a social media post at about 11 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 26).
The driver’s name was not available.
