A burglar tried to break in to Tim’s Foodmart early Friday but was chased away by police.
Derby police Lt. Justin Stanko said Friday morning that officers responded to a report of someone banging on the building, at the intersection of Maple and Seymour avenues, about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
While responding officers were checking the perimeter, Stanko said, they saw a suspect who was trying to break in to the rear of the building.
The suspect took off on foot. Officers gave chase but lost the suspect, Stanko said.
When they returned to the scene, Stanko said, officers found some “burglar tools and things of that nature.”
Derby police ask anyone with information about the incident to call 203 – 735-7811.
The food mart was the scene of a knife-point robbery in February during which a clerk was injured.
Police do not believe that incident is related to the attempted break-in.
