Derby police said they arrested two New Haven men responsible for a rash of car burglaries.
At about 4 a.m. Wednesday, cops responded to Mount Pleasant Street after receiving a report of people looking into parked vehicles.
Police arrested Keith Young, 19, and Roy Jones, 19, after a brief foot pursuit.
“A search of the area revealed that that two had broken into ten (10) parked vehicles on Mount Pleasant Street and neighboring roads, and removed items consisting of wallets, pocketbooks, and loose change,” according to a prepared statement from Derby police. “In the area of the car break-ins, police also located the vehicle the suspects were driving, which was determined to be stolen from New Haven.”
Both men were charged with 10 counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of sixth-degree larceny, one count of third-degree larceny and one count of criminal mischief.
They were scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby Sept. 23.
Police also said Young is a suspect in earlier vehicle break-ins that took place on Homestead Avenue in Derby and in the Hilltop neighborhoods of both Derby and Ansonia.
Additional charges are expected from both city police departments.
Derby police have repeatedly urged people to lock their vehicles and to leave nothing inside.
