Derby Police: White Powder Was Not A Threat

The white substance that closed Water Street for about an hour Saturday afternoon did not pose a threat, Derby police said Monday.

According to information from Derby police, a person doing remodeling work on an apartment on Sixth Street found a sandwich bag with an unknown white power in it.

The person brought the bag to the Derby Police Department shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Officers followed protocols by telling the person to leave the bag outside the building. Hazmat teams were called to the scene to investigate. The road was closed as they inspected.

Authorities determined the powder was either powdered sugar or flour.

Case closed.
