
DERBY — Derby Public Schools reported its first case of COVID-19 involving a person within the school district, according to a letter from Superintendent Matthew Conway Saturday.
“With the health and safety of our students, staff, and community members being paramount, I am reaching out to share with you that Derby Public Schools was recently made aware that a member of our school community has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus,” according to the letter.
The letter, which is posted below, continues:
Based on the district’s knowledge, the individual is currently isolated at home.
Upon receiving the information of potential exposure we will be taking the appropriate steps to mitigate further exposure by individuals or groups of individuals based on our cohorts and those identified as being in close contact with the individual testing positive.
Any individual determined to be in close contact with the individual testing positive will be notified by Naugatuck Valley Health Department and provided with guidance on next steps.
The letter does not state when the individual was last in the district, or to which school within Derby the person is connected.
