Derby Reports COVID Case At Middle School

DERBY — Derby Public Schools reported a person at Derby Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a letter from Superintendent Matthew Conway to parents sent Tuesday.

Derby Public Schools previously reported a COVID-19 case in a letter to parents and staff on Saturday.

Conway’s letter (from today) is published below. It was shared with The Valley Indy by a parent.

Dear Derby Parents, Students and Staff,

With the health and safety of our students, staff, and community members being paramount, I am reaching out to share with you that Derby Public Schools was recently made aware that a member of our Derby Middle School school community has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Based on the Districts Knowledge, the individual is currently isolated at home. Upon receiving the information of potential exposure we have taken the appropriate steps to mitigate further exposure by individuals or groups of individuals based on our cohorts and those identified as being in close contact with the individual testing positive. Any individual determined to be in close contact with the individual testing positive has already been notified by School Administration. In addition, Naugatuck Valley Health Department will be contacting them with guidance on next steps. In accordance with Addendum 5 and Addendum 9 of our reopening plan and in consultation with NVHD, staff and students, not identified as being in close contact will remain in school.

In the interests of the health and safety of our students and staff, all Derby Schools employees and students and families are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines and recommendations, practice social distancing, mask wearing, and frequent hand washing.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of everyone monitoring their health, and contacting their healthcare provider if they believe they are developing symptoms and completing our Daily Health Screening Questionnaire before leaving your home.

It is imperative that we all continue to work together to ensure our family members remain safe and healthy. Please know that Derby Public Schools will continue to monitor the situation and will provide additional information as needed.

(END OF LETTER)
