Derby Rock Crushing Proposal Withdrawn

A controversial proposal to operate a rock crushing business on land near the river walk near Division Street has been put on hold, the New Haven Register reported.

According to the Register’s story, property owner William Korolyshun withdrew his application Tuesday because he still had not answered questions members of the Planning and Zoning Commission have been asking.

Korolyshun could re-apply at a later date.

Korolyshun Korolyshun’s engineer was on vacation, according to the story, and needs more time to research information about his proposal.

The rock crushing proposal has generated some concerns from residents who use the nearby Derby river walk.

At past public hearings on the proposal, residents worried about noise, dust and truck traffic generated from the business.

Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission have said the application lacks details
.

According to city officials, Korolyshun’s attorney and city attorneys are talking to each other about the city acquiring a sliver of Korolyshun’s land to build an access road next to his property that will lead to commercial or industrial development on land next to train tracks.
