
DERBY — More than two dozen representatives from Derby Middle School’s Winter Running Program, Derby High School’s Cross Country Teams, and alumni of the Derby cross country programs participated in the Commodore Hull 5k in Shelton on Thanksgiving morning.
Ohm Patel, who ran for DMS, Notre Dame of West Haven, and currently is a member of the Quinnipiac University Cross Country Team, placed 8th overall and 5th in the Male 19 – 29-year-old Division. He covered the course in 18:45 (18:44 net time).
Ryan Adams, an assistant Derby cross country and track coach, finished 17th overall and 2nd in the Male 40 – 49-year-old Division, while Tyler Izquierdo, a sophomore with the DHS Cross Country and Track teams, was 21st overall and 5th in the Male High School Division.
On the women’s side, Kiley Rodriguez, Sabrina Hanock and Nicole Rizzo were the top Derby finishers. Rodriguez, who ran for Derby and just completed her collegiate career at Southern Connecticut State University, was 24th overall and captured the Female 19 – 29-year-old Division with a time of 20:40.
Hanock, who ran for Derby and currently runs for Southern New Hampshire University, finished 31st and 3rd in the Female 19 – 29 Division, while Rizzo, a former Red Raider runner who competes in various road races, placed 48th.
Derby Middle School Winter Running Program participants included Jayden Cooper, Liam McLoughlin, A.J. Dalhouse, Vinny Nuzzo, Julianne Meagher, Rasheim McNeill, Jess Herrin, Fabrizio, Keegan Goodwin and Shirley Diglio-Guerrette.
Derby High School participants included Tyler Izquierdo, Mason Izquierdo, Sofia Rudus and Emma Hyder.
Alumni, representing Derby teams of both recent vintage and from the 1980s and 90s, included Rodriguez, Hanock, Rizzo, Jeff Heitmann, Ed Solis, Antonio Prizio, Gabby Prizio, Stu Green, Rachel Fleischer, Sean Keogh (now running for Platt Tech), Anna (Brinkmann) Wines and Michelle Altomare.
Also running were DMS Coach Mike Gozzo, and former assistant DHS cross country and track coach Lucia Hanock.
