The Derby Board of Education’s budget committee is scheduled to hold a special meeting Friday (March 13) to review next year’s proposed spending plan.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Superintendent Matthew Conway’s office at 35 Fifth St. in Derby.
The school board is considering two, slightly different budgets that could increase spending by either 3.1 or 4.2 percent next year.

One, called a “full-up” budget by officials, totals about $17.4 million, while another “stretch” budget totals about $17.2 million. That’s a difference of roughly $200,000.
The school district’s budget right now totals about $16.5 million.
The school board is scheduled to adopt a budget March 19.
Whatever spending plan is endorsed by school officials goes to the Derby tax board, the government body that has final say on city spending.
The tax board will review the school budget at 7 p.m. March 31 in Derby City Hall.
