School officials in Derby posted a message Thursday about a motorist who offered rides to high school girls after they got off the school bus.
Derby police are investigating, according to the message from the school.
Here is the school district’s message:
“Today the police were notified by a parent that yesterday, in separate incidents, two female students from Derby High School were approached by a black male, in his mid-30s, wearing a white sweat shirt and driving a black four-door car thought to be a Honda Civic with tinted windows.
The incidents happened when they got off their bus.
The first incident occurred in the vicinity of Hawthorne Avenue and Talmadge Street.
The second incident occurred in the vicinity of East Ninth and Olivia Streets.
According to the report, the suspect rolled down their window, stated it was cold out and asked the student if they want a ride.
The Derby Police Department is assigning officers to patrol the city in the mornings and afternoons.
Since there is often safety in numbers, we encourage parents/guardians to arrange for their children not to wait alone at bus stops if possible.
In addition, we ask parents, guardians and students to call 911 immediately and alert school officials of suspicious activities at any of our bus stops.
The Derby Police Department continues to investigate both incidents. Derby PD’s phone number is 203 – 735-7811.
If you have any questions regarding this incident, please do not hesitate to contact the Superintendent’s office at 203 – 736-5027.
