Members of the Derby school board are scheduled to receive Dr. Stephen Tracy’s proposed 2012 – 2013 at a meeting Thursday (Feb. 16).
However, a discussion of the spending plan is not scheduled to happen at Thursday’s meeting, Tracy said.
Instead, board members will review the budget and the superintendent will go over his proposal at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday (Feb. 21).
The superintendent had been scheduled to unveil his budget Feb. 15.
However, the school board wanted more time to review his proposal in advance of a presentation, Tracy said.
The date change mean this year’s school budget cycle will be much shorter than last year’s budget discussion, which generated a great deal of debate as to whether Derby government adequately funds the school district.
Last year Tracy unveiled his budget Feb. 3.
This year the school board is expected to adopt its budget by Feb. 27.
The school board budget is scheduled to be presented to the Derby Board of Apportionment and Taxation (the tax board) on March 6, roughly three weeks earlier than last year.
The tax board ultimately decides how much money to allocate to the school district.
