Update: Derby Schools Send Message Regarding Suspicious Incident

Updated, 12:02 p.m. The Derby Police Department just released a statement regarding an incident Thursday morning involving a local student.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Derby Police Department responded to the Derby Middle School on a report that a 13 year-old female student reported that, as she was walking to school on Emmett Avenue, a vehicle approached her and the passengers asked where she was going and if she wanted a ride. 

No overt attempt to physically contact or abduct the child was reported.

The student described the passengers as a white female driver and a large white, possibly Hispanic, passenger with a shaved head. 

The vehicle was reported as being silver in color and possibly a Honda with a dent in the passenger side door.

A Derby Middle School student going to school was approached by two people in a vehicle, according to a message distributed to parents from the school district Thursday morning.

The student immediately walked away from the couple and went to a neighbor’s house, according to school officials.

School officials were told of the incident and called police.

Derby investigators were not immediately available for comment Thursday morning, but an officer said police are investigating.
