Derby Schools To Name Interim Superintendent

Derby schools are close to choosing an interim replacement for departing Superintendent Stephen Tracy.

An announcement could happen today (Monday, June 25) or Wednesday (June 27) according to school board chairman Ken Marcucio, Sr.

“Derby will be making an announcement about an interim (superintendent) either today or Wednesday,” Marcucio said. “We can’t give the name right now because we’re still working on it.”

Tracy is leaving the district at the end of the week to become become the superintendent of schools for Unified District No. 2, which is responsible for the education of students in foster and residential care in Connecticut.

Tracy took the reins in Derby in June 2008, replacing Michael Abdalla, who had served as interim superintendent after Janet Robinson left the district.

Tracy was paid $133,900 as Derby superintendent in 2011. His salary in the new position is $138,000.
