Derby Scrap Yard Does Poorly In Register Test

M. Jacobs & Sons on Factory Street in Derby fared the worst in a New Haven Register investigation into the business practices of area scrap metal yards.

Register reporters lugged a newspaper box to the Derby yard and were not asked for identification or if they had permission to sell the metal boxes.

The story comes months after a rash of war memorials were stolen in the Valley. Police think the items were sold for scrap.

Residents have started to replace the stolen monuments.
