Starting Monday, Derby residents can take their rubbish to Shelton.
Update: Here are more details that will help Derby residents bring items to the Shelton Transfer Station, courtesy of Ken Hughes, president of the Board of Aldermen.
Derby residents will have to visit the Town Clerks office in Derby City Hall (lower level) to pay for any items which will need to be disposed of at the Shelton Landfill and require payment (see the listed items below).
Once they pay for the item, they will receive a receipt which can then be brought to Sheltons’ landfill, along with the items to be disposed of.
If the items in question are not on the Derby receipt, and they do require payment to dispose of, they will not be accepted in Shelton.
These items include tires, refrigerators, demolition material, AC units, TV’s, etc.
There will be no charge for regular household garbage, cardboard, etc.
The fee schedule is the same as it was at the Derby Transfer Station for the past 20 years, except the cost to dump demolition material at the Shelton Landfill is considerably less.
Only cash will be accepted in the Derby Town Clerks office.
Brush and leaves will be accepted at the Derby Public Works Garage.
Tree stumps will not be accepted.
Weekly trash and recycling pickup WILL NOT BE AFFECTED.
Any questions on what will/will not require payment, please call the DPW Garage at: 203 – 736-1468
