Derby Transfer Station Will Open Monday

Update: Mayor Anthony Staffieri sent an e‑mail Wednesday afternoon saying the transfer station will be open for business Monday.

Update: Ken Hughes, president of the Board of Aldermen, said Wednesday he did not think the transfer station would open until next week.

The contract is still going back and forth between the city and the new company and the city was waiting for a new fee schedule from the company.

Original story follows:

It was unclear Tuesday afternoon whether the Derby Transfer Station would be open for business Wednesday.

The contract between Derby and the new operator — City Carting of Stamford — was not finalized as of 4:25 p.m. Tuesday.

However, Phil Robertson, Derby’s administrative assistant, said Wednesday is still the desired opening date.

Apparently there are a few minor details that City Carting wants to straighten out before signing the contract.

The Derby Transfer Station is on Pine Street. It has been closed last December following a labor dispute — and the fact officials discovered the operation did not have a permit from the state.
