
DERBY — American Legion John H. Collins Post #24 held their annual Veterans Day Service on the Derby Green conducted by Commander Gus Williams.
The Eleventh Hour ceremony included the ringing of the bell, laying of the wreaths, firing squad and taps.
Veteran organizations’ wreaths were placed by Boy Scouts of America, Housatonic Council Troop 3.

Representatives from St. Michael’s Catholic War Veterans Post # 1562 in Derby, CT visited the Navy Reserve Center in Plainville to recognize the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets — Barque Eagle Division for their involvement with Post 1562’s Wreaths Across America and U.S. Flag Retirement events, and for providing the Post #1562 Color Guard and contingent of members to march in the Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade. C.W.V. Post Commander Thomas M. Voytek, Treasurer Michael J. Kasinskas (both Navy Veterans) and C.W.V. Auxiliary President Loretta Budd presented the Certificates of Appreciation and a $1,500 check to Barque Eagle Division Commanding Officer Stephen Smith and the Sea Cadets.
