A Derby woman is recovering after a serious crash on Route 8 south Friday morning.
Tracy Brancucio of Derby was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier just south of exit 19 when she lost control of the car and collided with the guardrail on the right, according to information from state police at Troop I in Bethany.
She was listed in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital immediately after the crash.
However, her 21-year-old daughter Elizabeth told the Valley Indy over the weekend that her mother is recovering.
Tracy suffered a broken nose and ankle, along with multiple bruises.
“She a very strong women and she is fighting through this,” Elizabeth said in an email Saturday.

A 40-year-old woman is in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital after a chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles on Route 8 south in Ansonia overnight.
The crash happened at about 1:30 a.m.

Brancucio’s car then veered left across the highway and struck the median. Her vehicle then sat sideways across the road, where it was struck by a southbound 2003 Dodge Stratus, a 2002 Dodge Dakota and a 2002 Saturn.
No other injuries were reported.
The Stratus hit Brancucio’s Cavalier on the driver’s side front quarter panel, while the Dodge Dakota struck the Cavalier on the driver’s side rear quarter panel.
The Saturn hit the Cavalier head-on, troopers reported.
Police at the scene reported Brancucio sustained “incapacitating injuries.”
She was wearing her seatbelt and her airbag was deployed.
