Derby’s High Street Could Remain One Way

PHOTO: Jodie MozdzerDerby officials are considering keeping High Street a one-way road.

The police department issued a press release in early February changing the road to one way (southbound) from McLaughlin Terrace to Gilbert Street.

The road, due to this winter’s hellish winter, was unable to accommodate two-way traffic due to heavy snow.

At an Aldermen meeting last week, Mayor Anthony Staffieri said residents along High and Gilbert streets told him they like the road as one-way.

Derby Police Chief Gerald Narowski said the police department’s traffic authority is looking into the matter and will give a recommendation to the Derby Police Commission.

Alderwoman Barbara DeGennaro requested that residents in the neighborhood be contacted.

The input from the people who live there, obviously, would be helpful,” she said.
