Derby’s High Street No Longer One Way

Mayor Anthony Staffieri and the police department declared a part of High Street a one-way street during the hellish winter, when it became impossible for plows to remove snow from the narrow road.

There was some talk about keeping it one-way, but the Derby Police Commission opted not to do that, Deputy Police Chief Scott Todd told members of the Board of Aldermen at their meeting Thursday.

Staffieri said officials reserve the right to switch it back to one-way during emergencies, such as snowstorms.

High Street runs from Prospect Street off Route 34 all the way to Sentinel Hill Road.

Only a portion of the road had been one-way, from McLaughlin Terrace to Gilbert Street.
