Derby’s SantaCon Draws More Than 300 For A Worthy Cause

SantaCon 2012 was Saturday in Derby and more than 300 people participated!

Here’s a write up from Megan Rowley, who participated:

Dave D’Agostino from Derby created the event last year.

It was a success and they had approx 100 participants and a were able to collect non-parishable food for local shelters.

He decided to make this an annual event and the second SantaCon was held on Sat 12/8.

It started at Whiskey’s in Derby and then everyone paraded over the Route 34 bridge and down main street to Bar None — by police escort, no less.

This year there were about 300 participants dressed as Santas, Elves, reindeer, snowmen & other Christmas characters.

Brittani Schumacher from Seymour organized the toy donations. She collected and delivered approx 150 toys to Yale Children’s Hospital.

Willie Wooden, Jr. from Ansonia, donated a truck and trailer from his company, Above Them All Landscaping and Tree Service,” to help haul the food donations.

Wooden delivered approx 565 pounds of food to The CT Food Bank in Waterbury.
