A federal courtroom in New Haven is packed with supporters of developer Robert Scinto, who will be sentenced today for lying to FBI agents probing allegations of corruption in Shelton.
As of 12:45 p.m., prosecutors were still explaining to Judge Charles Haight why they believe Scinto should do time in a federal prison.
Scinto, 63, pleaded guilty Oct. 21 to lying about gifts he gave to Shelton employees and officials between 1999 and 2008.
Scinto addressed the court, his eyes tearing.
“I let so many other people down. It is tremendously painful for me because my reputation is the only thing I really value,” he said.
Scinto’s lawyers want the judge to give him probation. The two sides have been stating their reasons since 10:30 a.m.
Four people spoke on Scinto’s behalf.
A decision on the sentence is expected sometime after 1 p.m.
