Year after year, the DiMatteo Family Charitable Foundation has made a profound impact in the lives of tens of thousands of Connecticut residents, especially in the Greater Valley region. For the past 18 years, they have donated over $549,250 to nearly 20 local and national charities.

Most recently, this Shelton-based Foundation presented a generous $41,250 donation to three regional nonprofits. The Foundation is funded primarily from the proceeds of the DiMatteo Family Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament.

This Foundation was established in 2005 by the DiMatteo Family as a tribute to Anthony Tony” DiMatteo, company founder and their late father, who was battling colon cancer at the time.

Nearly 130 golfers swung their clubs for charity at the private, 18-hole championship golf course at Blackhawk Country Club in Stratford. The following charities each received a $13,750 donation: BHcare: A Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in Ansonia and Branford, the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley in Shelton and Ansonia, and the Tony DiMatteo Scholarship Fund affiliated with Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield.

John DiMatteo of Bethany, President of DiMatteo Group Financial Services, said, We are carrying on the legacy of caring for the community and giving to others that our late father and mother instilled in our family and are ingrained in our family businesses. Special thanks to all our long-time volunteers and dedicated sponsors who have supported us.”

BHcare is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. This regional nonprofit behavioral health services organization provides a comprehensive and integrated system of care for adults, children and families who are struggling with mental health, substance use, domestic violence, and other health-risk behaviors. For more than 40 years, BHcare has been providing hope, health, and recovery for more than 10,000 children, adults, and families throughout the Lower Naugatuck Valley and beyond.

Likewise, the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley is to provide, in a safe environment, programs that inspire, educate, guide and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. For over 65 years, their array of programming has served over 2,200 members annually.

The Tony DiMatteo Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 in honor of the late Anthony DiMatteo. He helped start the Notre Dame Catholic High School football program with Lou Saccone in 1958 through 1965 as offense and defensive line coach. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student athlete who otherwise would not be able to attend Notre Dame High School.

Eleven area companies and business associates of DiMatteo Group were golf sponsors. DiMatteo Group includes two divisions in Shelton: DiMatteo Group Financial Services and DiMatteo Group Tax and Accounting, both located at 1000 Bridgeport Avenue.

The top platinum sponsor was Cross Insurance. At the gold level, donors included: DiMatteo Group Financial Services, Liberty Mutual Insurance, MEGIN, Preferred and RJW Foundation.
