Want to eat a hot meal by the hearth of the David Humphreys House? You’ll have to compete for it.
The Derby Historical Society is auctioning off an “open hearth dinner” to be hosted at the Humphreys House sometime after the new year.
It’s the first dinner held at the house in more than 15 years, and the first time the Historical Society is auctioning off the honor. The historical society is hosting the auction to help raise needed funds.
“Non-profits are very challenged at times like this”, says Historical Society Executive Director Robert Novak.
“Many of the grants or foundations that have helped us for years have curtailed or entirely eliminated most of their charitable giving because of the hits their endowment took in the stock market,” Novak said. “We are very fortunate that the Valley communities and their residents have stood by us. And as the past few months have demonstrated, we continue to seek innovative ways, such as the unique experience of an Open Hearth Dinner at an American Patriot’s home, to help plug any shortfalls we may have from other sources”.
The menu choices, instructions of how to place a bid, and the present high bid, can be found here.
The dinner is for six people.
The winner will be announced at the end of the Historical Society’s Twelfth Night program on January 10. As of Thursday morning, the high bid was $200.
The David Humphreys House will maintain its regular hours through the Holiday Season.
