DERBY — The Derby Middle School Winter Running Program recorded a successful performance at the recent Your Last Chance for Romance 3‑Mile Road Race at Boothe Memorial Park in Stratford.
Derby swept 1st through 4th in the Boys’ 10- to 13-Year-Old Division. Joel Capelle took 1st place in the division (7th overall) with a time of 20:50. Jayden Cooper placed 2nd in the division (19th overall) by finishing in 24:12. Teammates Ayden Rodriguez and Fabrizio Dharma were 3rd and 4th, respectively, in the division with times of 26:20 and 28:34.
Julianne Meagher finished 2nd in the Girls’ 10- to 13-Year-Old Division and 26th overall with a time of 25:31. Sasha Capelle placed 3rd in the division in 28:34.
Former Derby High School cross country standout Sabrina Hanock captured the Women’s 19- to 29-Year-Old Division (9th overall) with a time of 21:39. DMS Coach Mike Gozzo also competed in the race, finishing 35th overall and 2nd in the Men’s 60- to 69-Year-Old Division with a time of 27:56.
