Yankee Gas is performing routine maintenance to the propane storage tanks at their downtown facility at Howe Avenue and Cornell Street, police report.
The maintenance consists of performing a safe burn off of the propane vapor from the tanks.
The “burn off” is causing a flame of gas to be visible by people in the area.
Yankee Gas personnel are on the scene.
Regulators at the Gas Pipeline Safety Unit of the Department of Public Utility Control along with the Fire Marshall approved the maintenance project.
