More than 2,000 United Illuminating were without power overnight Tuesday due to ice-covered trees knocking down power lines.
The problems were two-fold, according to United Illuminating.
A tree fell on Seymour Avenue in Derby and took down wires along with it, a UI spokesman said.
A tree also fell near the Indian Well substation in Shelton, also knocking down wires.
As of 7 a.m., 33 percent of all UI customers in Derby were without power. The school district was on a two-hour delay. Power was restored in Derby at 7:41 a.m.
Another 400 or so were out in Shelton, but those homes were restored as of 10:30 a.m.
