Dr. Leland J. Soto III, a surgeon, was named Griffin Hospital’s 2013 Physician of the Year at a recent Nurses’ Week celebration.
The annual award is based on voting by the hospital’s nursing staff, which selected Dr. Soto based on his compassion, kindness and professionalism.
Dr. Soto has been a member of the Griffin Hospital Medical staff since 2005. He is also a member of PriMed Surgical Specialists located in The Hewitt Ambulatory Care Center at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave. in Derby.
“Dr. Soto always takes the extra time needed to sit with patients and families and make sure they understand their care,” said Griffin Hospital VP of Patient Services Barbara Stumpo. “He is a patient advocate truly dedicated to his profession.”
Stump, herself a registered nurse, said the doctor also makes it a point to answer questions and help inexperienced nurses.
