Oxford First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers sent along an e‑mail Sunday afternoon updating residents on the town’s shelter.
(FYI — The Valley Indy thanks the First Selectwoman for sending out updates as much as possible — not easy given the circumstances)
In the video, Red Cross worker Linda Burian talks about what’s happening at the shelter.
The message from Drayton-Rogers:
Due to a plumbing problem at OHS the Town’s Emergency Shelter has been moved to the Quaker Farms School on Great Oak Road and will reopen at 6 PM tonight (Sunday, Oct. 30).
Those intending to spend the night are reminded to bring bedding and any medications they may need.
Hot drinks and food will be provided to those in need.
Anyone seeking additional information may call 203 888-9090.
Residents are reminded that outside spigots and hoses are available at each of the three fire departments in town. Please bring your own containers to be filled.
As First Selectman, I realize that this is a difficult situation for our residents.
Our emergency personnel are working tirelessly to assist wherever possible. CL&P is expected to begin their efforts of clearing trees and wires from roads this afternoon.
In the meantime, please take every precaution to avoid downed wires and trees with wires in them. Many roads remain blocked and impassible to vehicle traffic at this time. I have toured the roads and visited the schools, shelter and fire houses along with Selectman Dave McKane to obtain a firsthand look and knowledge of the damage throughout Oxford.
Storm damage is severe throughout town.
