There were no injuries after a dryer fire inside a home on Olivia Street in Derby Thursday morning.
Derby firefighters and EMS were sent to 314 Olivia St. at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a report of smoke filling the home.
The house is owned by Mary Porter, who runs “No Vet Left Behind,” a charity that helps military veterans find housing.
Arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from the house.
“The first crews went in and they found fire in a (clothes) dryer in the rear of the first floor,” said Derby Fire Department Assistant Chief Bob Laskowski. “The fire was contained to the dryer and the vent duct.”
There was smoke damage throughout the house, Laskowski said.
Fire crews started clearing the scene at 10:13 a.m.
The fire marshal and building inspector were on scene as well. Shelton firefighters were called in as backup, as per the Derby-Shelton protocols.
