DUI Case Against Former Derby Alderman Wraps Up, Case Against Former Corporation Counsel Continued

DERBY — A former Alderman could see a DUI offense wiped from his record if he stays out of trouble for the next year.

Louis Oliwa, a respected volunteer firefighter in the city, was charged with evading responsibility in June and driving under the influence in August. He resigned from the Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen in August.

According to The Connecticut Post, Oliwa was granted access to a court program for first-time DUI offenders this week.

Oliwa is scheduled back in court Nov. 18, 2020 — essentially a probationary period after which the charges could be dropped.

Also appearing in court this week — former Ansonia and Derby corporation counsel Kevin Blake, whose DUI charge has been pending in front of the court for two years.

Blake’s case has been on the docket 28 times since Ansonia police charged him with driving under the influence Sept. 12, 2017 in connection to a car crash on July 29, 2017. In the interim, Blake picked up two motor vehicle violations: operating a vehicle while under suspension, and speeding.

Blake has been a volunteer firefighter for 40 years.

He’s due in court again Dec. 17. Click here for a story from last year.
