Ansonia police have charged a New Haven man with driving under the influence, after he allegedly hit two men crossing Bridge Street in Ansonia Friday evening.
Michael Raucci, 27, of 306 Weybosset Street, was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby on Nov. 12. Police said he failed sobriety tests at the scene.
Raucci was driving on Bridge Street about 6:30 p.m. Friday, when he hit two men crossing in front of JRB’s at the intersection of West Main Street, police said.
The men were identified by police as Joseph Simon, 45, of Ansonia, and Adam Lein, 28, of Beacon Falls.
Both were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
One man had serious head injuries as well as a leg injury, and the other had leg injuries, according to reports from the scene of the accident.
Lein was listed in fair condition at Yale Monday afternoon. Lein underwent two surgeries the night of the accident, and three more since. He has serious head injuries, a broken leg and other injuries.
Simon has undergone two surgeries for a broken fibula and tibia, according to his wife, Catherine. Simon also has five broken ribs, his wife said.
