Dunk Public Officials At Seymour Founders’ Day June 2

Seymour will celebrate its fourth annual Founders’ Day event June 2, with a rain date of June 9.

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 5 p.m.

As in past years, the downtown business district will be closed to traffic and streets will become pedestrian walkways dotted with vendors selling goods/wares/crafts and food.

Downtown stores and restaurants will be open for business as well. Children will once again enjoy an inflatable area with the addition, this year, of a dunk tank run by Seymour High School’s Student Council.

Coaches, teachers, and public officials will take turns being dunked” for a great cause!

This year’s benefactor of the festival’s proceeds will be the Seymour Animal Control Facility on Silvermine Road.

New fencing and concrete work will be done over the summer months by Walsh Fence, of Hamden. In conjunction with the animal shelter an adoption area will be located at the Strand Theater parking lot, where dogs and cats housed at the shelter will be available for adoption.

Donations of dog and cat food, blankets, toys, leashes and other animal items will be collected the day of the event by Seymour Pride, whose booth will also be located in the Strand parking lot.

Anyone that brings an item to donate will receive a free ticket to be used in the inflatable area.

Guests can park in the Silvermine Industrial Park at CT Basement Systems, and buses from All-Star Transportation will transport people to and from the event. Bus stops will be at both ends of Main Street.

Parking will also be available at the Kerite Property on Day Street.

Buses will also be available to take guests to the Seymour Historical Society, where tours of the museum and cemetery across the street will be given. Many of Seymour’s forefathers and prominent community members are buried in the Trinity Cemetery.

Two food courts and a beer garden will be available to satisfy everyone’s palate. Entertainment all day will be provided by Phoenix at the main stage, located on Diversified Electric Company property.

Anyone interested in becoming a vendor can download forms on the event’s website at www.seymourfoundersday.org or can contact Association President Linda Bellavance for information at 203 – 888-5887.

Vendor booths are $10 for nonprofits, $50 for crafts vendors and $150 for food vendors.

The event is sponsored by Nu-Age Designs, The Valley Community Foundation, Phoenix, and Winters Bros.
