ANSONIA — A person (or people) tested positive for COVID-19 at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School, the school said in a communication to parents.
The school did not specify whether the person is on staff or is a student. The communication did not definitely state how many people tested positive, saying instead “that an individual(s) at Emmett O’Brien THS has tested positive …”
The message does not say the school is closing, but outlines “mitigation” steps officials are taking.
“We are coordinating our efforts with the local Health Department to promptly identify and monitor individuals who have had recent close contact with the COVID-19 positive individual(s) to prevent further spread,” the Sept. 14 message read, which was posted by a community member to social media.
A second parent shared the communication with The Valley Indy Tuesday morning.
“We are following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the state and local health departments for best practices and procedures to protect everyone’s health.”
The message said the school was conducting a “deep clean and disinfection of the affected areas.”
In addition, “staff members and students who were identified as having prolonged close contact to the COVID-19 case(s) will be required to be quarantined and will receive a separate notification from the local health department. Prolonged close contact is defined as being within six feet for 15 minutes or more.”
The school’s message then reiterated precautions families can take with students to try to minimize the spread of the virus.
