ANSONIA Emmett O’Brien Technical High School’s precision machining department hosted an open house on Oct. 20 to show off $139,000 worth of new equipment.

More than 55 employers from across the state came to the school and got a first-hand view of the students in action. Employers had the opportunity to visit with nearly 50 of the school’s tenth and eleventh grade students utilizing today’s latest technology as they prepare to enter the high-tech world of manufacturing.

This was a perfect opportunity for our local industry partners to spend time with our students and make plans for potential employment opportunities,” said Steve Orloski, the school’s precision machine department head. Orloski said that employers are eager to hire his skilled students in manufacturing, and that currently 95 percent of EOB’s upper-class students are already placed in careers and internships.

Orloski said the shop just received $139,000 worth of updated and repaired equipment. Orloski credited state Rep. Kara Rochelle and Jim Gildea, president of Manufacture CT, for playing a critical part in helping the school to get the necessary equipment and funding.
