SATURDAY IS DERBY DAY!
But there will be plenty more than just the city’s annual downtown craft fair mega galore games and food trucks going on.
Here’s a rundown of all the events happening.
BOO YAH
Beginning at 8 a.m., the Derby Dash 5K and Fun Run will be held to benefit the St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby.
The race starts on the Housatonic side of the Derby Greenway off Main Street.
Following the race, Derby Day activities will officially start at 10 a.m. on Elizabeth Street and the Derby Green.
There will be craft vendors, food, pony rides and games for the kids. It continues to 5 p.m.
In addition, a dedication ceremony will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Division Street trailhead of the Derby Greenway.
The ceremony will begin with the induction of three new members to the Derby Hall of Fame, presented by Jack Walsh of Valley United Way.
The inductees are James B. Atwater, Horace Weston, and Stephen Whitney. Click here to read more from the Electronic Valley.
Then John Monroe of the National Park Service will unveil an “America’s Great Outdoors” bronze plaque awarded by former federal Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar.
The plaque commemorates Derby’s work on the Naugatuck River Trail Project.
Mayor Anthony Staffieri of Derby, Mayor James Della Volpe of Ansonia and U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro will also speak.
The dedication ceremony will end at 11 a.m. to join in the Derby Day festivities over on Elizabeth Street.
At noon, there will be a Duck Decorating contest followed at 3 p.m. by the Fifth Annual Duck Race beginning at the Derby/ Shelton bridge.
Duck Race tickets are $5 and participants have the chance to win over 65 prizes including a $1,000 top prize.
