Filing Dates For Tax Exemptions

The filing dates on personal property and exemptions effective for the Ansonia 2012 Grand List are:

Veterans exemptions — Only veterans who have not filed their discharge papers with the City Clerk need to file prior to Oct. 1. Also, only those veterans who served during a war period are entitled to exemptions under state statutes.

Veterans who are currently receiving exemptions for wartime service and have filed need not apply.

Veterans with incomes of $32,300 (single) or $39,500 (married) exemptions must file their application for the Grand List prior to Oct. 1. Disabled veterans must being in proof from the VA when filing.

Veterans entitled to disability exemptions must provide proof from the VA to the Assessor prior to Nov. 1, 2012.

New blind exemptions — Requires a letter stating legal blindness status prior to Jan. 31, 2013.

New totally disabled persons — Requires a social security letter stating 100 percent disability when filing in the Assessor’s office prior to Jan. 31, 2013.

Personal property — All persons operating a business in the City of Ansonia must declare property used in the operation of said business with the Assessor’s office prior to Nov. 1, 2012.

Persons with unregistered vehicles must declare with the Assessor’s office. Vehicles registered out-of-state that frequent the owners’ residence for a total of 90 days in the year must file with the Assessor’s office prior to Nov. 1.
