Fire Damages Shelton House

Two people were looking for somewhere to stay after a fire damaged a two-family house at 164 Bridgeport Ave. Tuesday night.

There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters were sent to the call at about 9:15 p.m., said Shelton Assistant Fire Chief Paul Wilson.

The first units on the scene reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the 99-year-old two story house.

The fire apparently started in a first-floor bedroom before spreading to a hallway. A woman renting the apartment on the first floor was able to get out, as was the homeowner, who lives second floor.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames relatively quickly, then searched the house to see if fire had extended into the walls and attic.

There is heavy fire damage to the bedroom, as well as the hallway and a living room,” Wilson said.

The entire first floor had heat and smoke damage.

Firefighters rescued a cat belonging to the first floor tenant.

Firefighters were contacting the Valley Red Cross Tuesday for temporary arrangements for the two people.

Three companies with about 45 firefighters responded to the scene.

A cause wasn’t available Tuesday night.
