Fire At Taco Bell In Ansonia

A fire damaged the Taco Bell on Division Street Monday afternoon.

There were no injuries. The fire marshal’s office is investigating.

About a dozen people, including employees, were in the restaurant at about 5 p.m. when smoke was spotted coming from the rear of the building.

Arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. The bulk of the fire was in the building’s facade, above a rear service entrance to the restaurant. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, Ansonia Fire Department Chief Ron Burgess, Sr. said.

“We went on an aggressive attack to put it out,” Burgess said.

Firefighters then used chainsaws to cut into the area surrounding the rear entrance to make sure the flames had not spread.

“The guys did a quick knockdown but because of the design of the building, we have to do an extensive overhaul to make sure we got it all,” Burgess said.

Taco Bell employees standing outside the restaurant declined to comment.

The Derby Fire Department was also called to the scene. Seymour firefighters covered any other fire calls that came in during the incident.

An official from the Naugatuck Valley Health District was on the scene as well.
