The Shelton Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire at a vacant property off Canal Street Monday night.
According to information from Fire Marshal James Tortora, Shelton firefighters were sent to 273 Canal St. at 8:23 p.m. after a report of a structure fire.
The fire was in a rear storage room of an abandoned building, according to Tortora. No injuries were reported.
Four engines, two ladder trucks, a rescue truck and a tower truck responded to the blaze. Derby firefighters were called to the scene as part of the mutual aid protocols.
Smoke from the fire was visible along the Housatonic River, where boaters were plentiful observing the Memorial Day holiday.
The building in question was roughly behind the Boys and Girls Club.
Derby firefighters, by the way, responded to a similar off-the-beaten path at 6:30 a.m. next to the Witek Park soccer fields.
A portable bathroom was burning, and the fire spread to an equipment trailer. It’s under investigation.
