DERBY-SHELTON — The annual Derby-Shelton fireworks show is scheduled to start after dark Thursday (July 8).
UPDATE: the July 8 fireworks show scheduled for Derby-Shelton has been canceled due to weather forecasts. The July 9 rain date is canceled, too. Officials in both cities said they’re working on a new date.
Fireworks on the Ansonia-Seymour border are scheduled for Sunday (July 11, scroll down).
ANSONIA-SEYMOUR FIREWORKS
The governments in Ansonia and Seymour are teaming this year to launch fireworks from the top of Fountain Lake in Ansonia (very close to the Seymour border) after dark on Sunday, July 11.
Mayor David Cassetti’s administration in Ansonia and First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis’ administration have been heavily promoting the show on social media.
They say that the show will be able to be seen from a number of locations throughout Ansonia and Seymour.
Some suggested viewing locations from the two administrations: Tri-Town Plaza in Seymour, the former Big Y Shopping Center in Ansonia, the Seymour Community Center parking lot, Nolan Field in Ansonia, and Assumption Church on N. Cliff Street in Ansonia. The show should also be visible from North Main Street in Ansonia.
Here’s a topographic map from Google of the area.

Here’s old, now out of date info about the Derby-Shelton fireworks, originally part of this article:
Derby Mayor Rich Dziekan’s administration opted not to launch fireworks from the Derby side of the Housatonic River this year.
However, Shelton’s fireworks in downtown Shelton will be visible from downtown Derby, as usual, and the City of Derby is preparing for a large crowd to enjoy the show.
Derby also contributed money toward the fireworks, FYI.
The show had originally been scheduled for July 2 but rain caused the two cities to move the event to July 8 (with a rain date of July 9).
Derby police issued a helpful image a few weeks back showing which roads in Derby will be closed to traffic in order to accommodate spectators. The information in the image below still stands, except for the date.
Crowds may gather on Elizabeth Street, the Caroline Street municipal parking lot, and, naturally, city sidewalks.
Elizabeth Street will be closed to traffic between Fifth Street and Main Street from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The parking garage will be closed to the public, as will the area south of Main Street next to the Housatonic River.
On Tuesday, The Valley Indy asked area restaurants to submit any specials or activities planned for Thursday night. None responded.
However, for those looking to make a night of it in Derby, River Walk Social at 17 Elizabeth St. will have a DJ starting at 6 p.m., along with $2 red, white and blue shots, and $5 red, white and blue cocktails. Remember, there could be large crowds, so be especially patient with restaurant staff.
Prior to the original date of the fireworks River Rock Tavern at 5 Main St. in Derby was taking reservations to watch the fireworks from its outside patio. Call 203 732 0808 with questions.
