Snowfall overnight cancelled school in Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton.
Now the fight is on between Mother Nature and area DPW workers to keep catch basins clear to prevent flooding.
The National Weather Service dropped its winter weather advisory, but a flash flood watch for the region was still active as of 9:45 a.m.
The rain today is expected to be heavy at times.
While there were no reports of major accidents during the morning rush hour, a state DOT truck apparently sideswiped a utility pole on Pershing Drive in Ansonia.
As of 10:15 a.m., electricity was out between Clifton Avenue and Bridge Street. Power was restored at 10:27 a.m.
However, Ansonia firefighters were still at the scene as of 11 a.m., after Yankee Gas discovered a natural gas leak in the area.
Twitter was buzzing this morning with local commuters who advised roads were a slushy mess. “Slow and steady” was the phrase of the morning.
According to local reports, the majority of snow fell between 5:45 a.m. and 6:45 a.m.

Tonight: A chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind between 13 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.
