Five people injured Friday (March 14) after a three-car accident near downtown Seymour were all treated and released from area hospitals, police said Monday.
Seymour Police Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski issued a prepared saying the police department’s accident reconstruction team continues to investigate the crash, which occurred about 2:30 p.m. on Falls Hill on West Street, under Route 8.
After receiving several 911 calls reporting the accident, officers arrived to find “a three vehicle head-on collision with severe damage to all vehicles and multiple injuries to operators and passengers in said vehicles. One operator was found to be trapped and had to be extricated by fire personnel.”
Satkowski said Greg Barna, a 50-year-old Beacon Falls man, was driving his black Dodge Dakota pickup truck east on West Street when, for unknown reasons, the truck hit a cement retaining wall to the right of the road.
The truck then bounced off the wall and crossed the road’s center line as it came to a curve, hitting a white pickup truck driven by Adam Alvelo, 18, of Seymour.
Alvelo tried to evade Barna’s truck but was unable to do so, Satkowski said.
Due to the impact, Alvelo’s truck was pushed back, spun around, and hit by a third vehicle, a gray Audi SUV driven by Megan Fedorowicz, 26, of Oxford, which was behind Alvelo’s truck.
Alvelo’s truck was then hit a second time by Barna’s, and ended up sandwiched between the Audi and the other pickup.

All three drivers ended up going to area hospitals, as did two passengers in Fedorowicz’s SUV — her 8‑month-old son and 54-year-old Kathleen Sciarrino, of Oxford — but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening, Satkowski said, and all were treated and released.
About 20 firefighters from the Citizens Engine and Great Hill Hose volunteer fire companies responded to the crash and extricated Alvelo from his truck.
Ambulances from Seymour, Ansonia, and Oxford also responded.
“This accident remains under investigation by Seymour Police Department Accident Reconstruction specialists,” Satkowski’s statement said. “Criminal or motor vehicle charges may be applied upon completion of said accident investigation.”
