Updated at 8:56 a.m.It hasn’t stopped raining since Saturday night, so a flash flood watch is in effect for the entire water-logged area.
The National Weather Service issued the watch at 4 p.m. Sunday.
The rain is expected to continue until tonight (Monday, Aug. 15), with another 1 to 2.5 inches of rain being dumped on the state.
As of 2:34 a.m. Route 34 west in Derby was closed between Gilbert and Bank street due to flooding. The road was open again as of 7 a.m. See the video from WTNH.
In Oxford, Fire Chief Scott Pelletier was helping to pump out a home on Oxford Road at 9:15 a.m. Oxford Road had been overrun with water in several places.
“Nothing is closed, but we had water come over some roads around two and three a.m.,” Pelletier said.
Oxford roads that were flooded included Route 67 near Old State Road No. 3, and Echo Valley Road near the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center.
“We put barricades out to warn people but for the most part everything stayed open,” Pelletier said.
Roxanne TothStevens posted the following to the Valley Indy Facebook page at about 1 a.m. Monday:
“Major flooding in Seymour. Walnut Street, Beach & North, Beach & New Haven Road. Some roads closed – water is rising fast. Water is over the guard rails on Route 67 at the Woodbridge town line.”
By 8 a.m., the flooding was gone on Day Street and Pearl Street, but the roads were full of dirt and debris and Seymour Public Works Director Dennis Rozum had a street sweeper truck out to clean up the mess.
“Today we’re cleaning them all up,” Rozum said.
Other Seymour streets that had flooding issues overnight included French Street and Walnut Street.
Seymour volunteer firefighters were still responding to reports of flooded basements as of 8:50 a.m.
By 2:15 p.m., Alex Danka, vice president of the Seymour Land Conservation Trust, was reporting that the overnight rain had washed out a footbridge from the trust’s property off Chatfield Street.
The left lane of Route 8 north was closed between exits 28 and 29 in Naugatuck due to flooding at about midnight Monday morning.
The Hilltop area of Ansonia had some eight calls to the fire department for water-related issues Sunday night, according to DoingItLocal.com.
Shelton Fire Department spokesman Nick Verdicchio said there were some reports of trees downed along Route 110, but that the Shelton Fire Department wasn’t called to respond.
There were no reports of major flooding in Shelton, he said.

Tuesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4pm.
The Housatonic River at Stevenson is expected to rise to 7 feet by 3 p.m. today, well below its flood stage of 11 feet.
The Naugatuck River above Beacon Falls was at 11.7 feet Monday morning. Its flood stage is 12 feet.
By 9 a.m. Monday, the Naugy had dipped back down to 8 feet. The Housy was at 2.4 feet, well below flood stage.
