MILFORD – A former Derby public works director who allegedly embezzled $97,000 from the Adriatic Marchegian Club on Hawthorne Avenue pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine on Aug. 28, The Connecticut Post reported.
Ron Culmo’s plea means he doesn’t admit guilt, but acknowledges the state has enough evidence for a conviction.
If accepted by the court, a guilty finding is made on the record.
Culmo is scheduled to appear for sentencing in Superior Court in Milford on Dec. 4, according to The Post.
Authorities said Culmo stole money from the club while serving as its treasurer. He was Derby’s public works director during Mayor Anthony Staffieri’s administration.
