Shelton’s Center Stage Theater’s next production is the classic musical “Fiddler on the Roof,” and its cast features a familiar face to those who follow politics in the lower Naugatuck Valley.
Former Derby Mayor Marc Garofalo, who now serves as the city clerk, will reprise the lead role of Tevye, a part he played at Sacred Heart Academy two decades ago.

Performances are held each weekend starting Jan. 31. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students.
Garofalo has performed in several productions of Fiddler, including Scarpa’s own Youth CONNection in 1988, according to a press release from Center Stage.
With a rousing and heartwarming score, which includes “Tradition,” “Matchmaker,” “If I Were A Rich Man,” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” Fiddler on the Roof magically weaves music, dance, poignancy and laughter into such an electrifying and unforgettable experience.
“The beauty of Fiddler is that it is a play that everyone can relate to because it’s about family and community relationships,” said Gary Scarpa, the show’s director. “It is a powerful story, filled with humor and emotion, and one which our talented cast is excited about bringing to life on the stage.”

Running Jan. 31 through February 16, performances take place each Friday and Saturday evening at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
A special Thursday show will be offered on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
The Center Stage website offers the following synopsis of the production:
“In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor milkman, is trying to keep his family’s traditions in place. Yet, times are changing. When Tevye’s daughters want to make their own matches, he must choose between his own daughters’ happiness and those beloved traditions that keep the outside world at bay.
Fiddler on the Roof has captured the hearts of people all over the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion.”
Center Stage Theater is located at 54 Grove St. (formerly Lafayette School) in Shelton.
