Former State Worker Fined

A Shelton resident will pay a $2,000 fine for using money meant for crime victims or charity for his own use, the Office of State Ethics announced Monday.

From 1986 until February of 2007, Lawrence M. Hurley, Jr. worked as a supervisory assistant to the state’s attorney in Superior Court in Milford.

He had access to money paid by criminal defendants that was supposed to be used as restitution for victims or as charitable donations.

Hurley took money for personal use, according to a press release from the ethics office.

In addition to the $2,000 fine, Hurley can’t seek a contract with the state for two years.
